Salcey Forest

A small forest in South Northamptonshire, not too far from Northampton or Milton Keynes. I’ve visited this forest several times this summer as it isn’t too far away from where I live. It is definitely well worth a visit if you’re passing or if you don’t live too far away.

It is quite easy to find and there is ample, reasonable parking so make sure you have some change with you. There are numerous things to do depending on the ages of the people in your party.

Walks: There are several planned circular routes that allow you to walk around the forest. These walks vary in difficulty and distance so there is one for everybody – ranging from 30 mins to 3 hours! As you walk around you can spot lots of local wildlife.

Tree top walk: The tree top walk takes you up to the tree tops and you have a great view over the county. The tree-top walk is pushchair and wheelchair friendly and there is a parking area right at the top so that you can go up the short flight of steps to the viewing platform.

Play Area: There is also a play area near the car park with big equipment for the children to use and play on 🙂

Cycling: It’s also a good place to take your bikes and there is a great cycle route about 6 miles long around the forest.

Food: There is also a decent cafe at the forest which sells lunches, ice creams, snacks etc. They are reasonably priced and it does get very busy in the summer 🙂

Activities: Recently they have added a ‘tree ninja’ climbing course that takes you up to 40 feet high or so and is great fun!

School Groups: They offer educational visits to groups where you can cover a whole range of topics and this is worth checking out as they are well organised and allow children to have a real ‘hands on’ approach!

When I visited with friends we loved the setting and took lots of pictures that got progressively more silly as time went on! I’ll let you be the judge of that, haha!

I’d love to know what you think 🙂 What is your favourite season to visit forests?
